Volkswagen Beetle GRC Gets 544 hp

What do you think about starting the weekend with a 544 horsepower Volkswagen Beetle rally car? This is the Volkswagen Beetle GRC Rallycross race car, which comes with a sequential 6-speed gearbox, a fixed-ratio all-wheel-drive system, and multiplate limited-slip differentials at the front and the rear. The VW Beetle GRC is also equipped with a strut-type suspension system an all four corners, ZF dampers with 9.1 inches of travel and massive brakes with 14.0-inch vented discs at the front and 11.8-inch ones at the rear. The GRC Beetle sits on 17-inch racing wheels with 240/640-R17 Yokohama competition tires. With a weight of just 2,668 pounds and 544 hp, the Volkswagen Beetle GRC is able to rocket from nought to 60 mph in... drum roll... 2.1 seconds!

VW did not disclose the modifications they did on the Beetle's 1.6 TSI 4-cylinder turbocharged and intercooled engine.

The incredible performance figures of the GRC Rallycross Beetle are matched by a customized aerodynamic package. It includes wider wheel arches, a monster rear wing, a more aggressive looking front bumper, side skirts, and a rear diffuser. There's also a modified hood with vents for cooling the engine bay.

The interior, the Volkswagen Beetle GRC comes with a full roll cage, sport bucket seats, and racing harnesses.

The Volkswagen Beetle GRC is going to be raced by Tanner Foust and Scott Speed in the Red Bull Global Rallycross championship this year.
