Hyundai released today the first image of their latest show car, which is called the i-oniq. Hyundai's i-oniq concept is going to be premiered next week, during the opening of this year's Geneva auto show. The i-oniq will showcase Hyundai's latest technology, we well as the company's new design language. So far, the Korean carmaker did not confirm the i-oniq for production. The Hyundai i-oniq is a three-door hatchback, with a futuristic and muscular exterior design, equipped with an innovative powertrain. Under the hood of the i-oniq there's an electric motor, and a range-extending petrol engine.
To power the i-oniq, Hyundai chose a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which is mated to an electric motor, which has an output of 109 PS.
The lithium ion batteries of the i-oniq give it a range of 120 km/h in the electric only mode. The petrol engine is able to extend this range to 700 km. Hyundai rates the i-oniq with a 45 g/km CO2 emissions level.
The Hyundai i-oniq measures 4.4 meters in length, and comes with a few distinctive design elements. These include the so-called 'penthouse roof' and the LED headlights, which are preferred by more and more carmakers these days.
The lounge-style interior of the i-oniq is full of high-tech equipment, which reflects, as its manufacturer states, "contemporary and future premium consumer electronics technology".
We'll have more images of the Hyundai i-oniq together with new details next week.
