If the Diesel hybrid Evo rumor came as a shock to you, the Brits from Autocar have more news for you, the next generation Subaru Impreza STI is also looking to go diesel. Although equally shocking, the diesel Subaru Impreza STI is more likely to happen, since the Japanese carmaker already has quite a powerful diesel unit in its line-up. The Subaru Impreza STI Diesel could be powered by the current 2.0-litre turbodiesel boxer unit with a serious power output increase.
The Subaru Impreza STI Diesel is also meant to offer the same performance with less fuel and less CO2 emissions. The rest of the drivetrain of the Subaru Impreza STI Diesel will be kept from the current model version.
The Subaru Impreza STI Diesel is not the only new rumor regarding the rally inspired model. The manufacturer is also considering giving the 2012 Subaru Impreza STI a smaller petrol engine, based on the 1.5-liter unit currently available on the regular Impreza.
If they decide to build the Subaru Impreza STI Diesel, we bet they won't be braking any lap time records on Nurburgring anymore.
