Volkswagen released today the first images of the production version of the Golf R Cabrio, as well some initial specifications. The Volkswagen Golf R Cabrio is the fastest open-top version of the Golf ever produced by VW. It's powered by the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that's good for 265 PS (195 kW). As you're expecting, the Golf R cabriolet comes with the 6-speed DSG transmission and a front-wheel-drive system. Volkswagen's officials specs of the Golf R convertible say it need just 6.4 seconds to get from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) and that its top speed is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). VW equips the cabriolet version of the Golf R with LED DRLs, bi-xenon headlights with darkened housings, gloss-black side mirror casings, black brake calipers and smoked rear lights.
The VW Golf R Cabrio is also fitted with updated aerodynamics, which include new side skirts, and a rear diffuser. There are also two chromed exhaust pipes on each side of the car. The Golf R cabrio sits 25 mm closer to the ground than the regular version of the cabriolet and it's going to be available with a choice between 18-inch and 19-inch alloys.
At the interior, the Golf Cabrio R is equipped with leather sports seats, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, handbrake grip and gear lever, aluminum pedals, and various aluminum trim parts. The roof of the Golf R cabriolet can be lowered in 9.5 seconds at speeds of up to 18 mph and it can be raised in 11 seconds. The hood is electrically insulated.
The equipment list of the Golf R cabrio includes RCD 310 DAB radio with MDI, Bluetooth connectivity, and an anti-theft alarm system. The Volkswagen Golf R Cabrio's price starts at £38,770 RRP OTR in the UK and at €43,325 in the rest of Europe. If you live in the UK you'll have to wait until this spring to order yours.
