The Volkswagen buggy up design study had its premiere yesterday in Frankfurt, showing a new interpretation of VW's latest small model. In fact, VW premiere in Frankfurt no less than six concepts based on the new Volkswagen Up production model. The Volkswagen buggy up is a re-interpretation of the original Buggy, born in the 1960s in California, when American Bruce Meyers took a Beetle chassis and built a glass-reinforced plastics and GRP body around it.

The new Volkswagen buggy up promises go-kart handling, thanks to its low height, the 58 mm lowered seats and a 20 mm lowered ride height. To keep it usable, VW equipped with 4 degree height adjustable steering wheel, which can be tilted in a 21 degree range. Being an open-top vehicle,

the new VW buggy up must be water proof. It features drains in the floor, open side sills, neoprene coated shell seats, and a sort of canvas roof. For added safety, the buggy up also comes with a roll bar.

In comparison to the standard up, Volkswagen’s new buggy comes with a re-designed rear end, a new hood and front bumper, a new boot lid and re-styled tail lamps.

Volkswagen's 2012 buggy measures 3,584 mm in length, 1,672 mm in width and 1,288 mm in height. It sits on 18-inch alloys and features a "hot orange" exterior finish. For a good soundtrack, the up buggy features an iPod/iPhone dock and active loudspeakers.
