Volvo revealed today the V40 Cross Country, which aims to be an alternative for those looking for a more rugged station wagon, that's also capable of going off-road. In comparison to the regular V40, the Cross Country comes with several exterior updates. These include silver roof rails, 19-inch alloys, a new front bumper, a honeycomb mesh grille, re-designed LED DRLs, re-styled sills, and a new rear bumper with an integrated skid plate. At the interior, Volvo's Cross Country V40 features a smart little rear bench, which can be folded up to get a grocery holder, or away to get more luggage space. If you folded down you can get a flat floor, or you can flip it over to protect various items. The Volvo V40 Cross Country is equipped with a Hill Descent Control system, start/stop and braking energy regeneration, and seven different mood light options.

Volvo is going to sell the V40 Cross Country with a broad range of petrol and diesel engines. There’s a D2 1.6-litre diesel engine combined with a six-speed manual gearbox that develops 115 hp and 285 Nm of torque. With this engine you'll get 74 mpg and a 99 g/km CO2 emissions level. Other engines include:

- five-cylinder 2.0-litre D4 turbo-diesel: 177 hp and 400 Nm, 0-60 mph in 7.9 seconds automatic (8.2 sec with manual), 64 mpg, 117 g/km CO2
