The first details of the second generation 2012 VW Beetle have surfaced today on the web. Apparently, the 2012 VW Beetle will be unveiled next year at the LA auto show and will bring a less retro look. The 2012 VW Beetle will hit the European market in May 2011 and will be followed by the 2012 VW Beetle Cabrio the next year.

The 2012 VW Beetle will be offered with a range of engines including 1.2-liter with 105 hp, a 1.4-liter with 160 hp and a 2.0-liter developing 210 hp. The United States market will also have a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine with 170 hp. The 2012 VW Beetle will also offer a diesel range with two engines: a 1.6-liter with 105 hp and a 2.0-liter with 140 hp.

The German carmaker also plans the 2012 VW Beetle hybrid with a powertrain consisting of a 150 hp 1.4-liter turbo engine and a 27 hp electric motor.

The 2012 VW Beetle will be wider than the current version and will have a longer wheelbase. The new version will also have an improved front and rear suspension for better handling.

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle was premiered on April 18th, 2011.
