The latest rumor from Daimler says the company is developing a new baby roadster, the Mercedes SLA roadster, based on the Vision concept that was premiered back in 2000. The Mercedes SLA roadster is expected to hit the market sometime in 2012 and will sit just below the SLK.
The Mercedes SLA roadster will be part of a new model range based on the A-Class and B-Class platform. A baby SUV is also expected to be a part of this line-up. The company is expected to use a front-engine front-wheel-drive configuration for the new Mercedes SLA roadster and the rumor also mentions a possible AMG version of the new model. The AMG version could be powered by a new four-cylinder supercharged gasoline engine.
With the new Mercedes SLA roadster, Daimler is targeting a younger and more fuel-efficient oriented segment of the market.
