Volkswagen Admits Cheating On Emissions Tests

 »  »  »

Volkswagen admitted this week that they have cheated on the emissions tests on one of their most popular engines. The engine in question is the 2.0 TDI diesel engine, which is available for almost all of their models. According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), VW used software that specifically manipulates the emissions tests. This violates the EPA's Clean Air Act. Apparently, more than 480,000 Volkswagens are equipped with the 2.0 TDI engine. VW is facing a $37,500 fine for each of them, which amounts to a total of $18 billion USD. EPA says the nitrous oxide emissions of the 2.0 TDI engine is between then and forty times higher in reality than the results officially given by VW. Currently EPA is still investigating this matter.

Volkswagen of America has stopped the sales of the 2.0 TDI engine for the moment.

Volkswagen is facing a record fine in the automotive industry. Apart from that, the sales of the 2016 models powered by the 2.0 TDI engine could also take a serious blow. We'll have more details about this matter as soon as they are available.
