Volkswagen Beetle R Debut

 »  »  »

Various sources are reporting today that Volkswagen is preparing to premiere the performance version of the bug, the Beetle R, at this year's Frankfurt auto show in September. VW hasn't confirmed this yet, but it might just happen. The VW Beetle R is expected to have the same engine as the Golf R and the Scirocco R. It's the 2.0 TSI two-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that outputs 265 PS in the Scirocco and 270 PS in the Golf. Early indications say that the Beetle R might get a little less power out of this engine, at a rating of 240 PS. The torque however, will be the same 350 Nm as it's the case with the Golf and the Scirocco.

The Volkswagen Beetle R is expected to have a

limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h) and to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in around 5.5 seconds.

We'll have more details on Volkswagen's Beetle R as soon as they're available.
