The Volkswagen Golf VII GTI concept had its world debut today at the Paris motor show, previewing VW's future hot hatch. We'll get straight to the point. The Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI is going to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine, which is going to be available in two power levels. The Stage 1 standard Golf VII GTI develops 162 kW / 220 PS and 350 Nm of torque. This is 10 PS and 70 Nm of torque more than the current sixth generation model. In this version, the Golf 7 GTI needs 6.6 seconds to accelerate from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) and it has a top speed of 153 mph (246 km/h). Even more, Volkswagen says that this version is able to get from 80 to 120 km/h in the fourth gear in 5.0 seconds, and in the fifth gear in 6.0 seconds.

The Stage 2 Performance Golf VII GTI is good for 169 kW / 230 PS and apparently, the same amount of torque. The performance model get from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.5 seconds and it has a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

In terms of efficiency, the 6-speed manual gearbox version of the Volkswagen Golf VII GTI offers a combined fuel economy of 47.1 mpg (6.0 l/100 km) and a CO2 emissions level of 140 g/km. This is 1.3 liters per 100 km or 18 per cent less than the Golf 6. VW will sell the Golf 7 GTI with the DSG gearbox too.

The Volkswagen Golf VII GTI features a new front axle differential lock, which attempts to correct the problems created by power-related understeer. The new Golf GTI also features progressive steering and 17-inch brakes.

The distinctive exterior design elements of the Golf 7 GTI include a new front bumper, a honeycomb grille with a double red stripe detail, red brake calipers, darkened LED rear lights and 80 mm diameter tailpipes.
