Volkswagen revealed today the GTI version of the seventh generation Golf. As you're probably expecting, the Volkswagen Golf GTI VII is going to have its world debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show next week, and it will go on sale soon after. The Volkswagen Golf VII GTI is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder TSI turbocharged engine that comes with direct injection. VW's official specs of the Golf VII GTI say it develops 169 kW / 230 PS from 4,700 to 6,200 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,600 rpm. However, this is the entry level Golf GTI VII. Volkswagen is also offering a second version of hot hatchback, called GTI Performance, which has an output of 230 PS at 4,700-6,200 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1,500-4,600 rpm. The Golf 7 GTI is going to be available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or the 6-speed DSG gearbox.

The standard version of the Golf GTI 7 is rated with a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 152 mph (246 km/h). The GTI Performance version can get from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.4 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

In terms of efficiency, the manual version of the VW Golf GTI 7 is rated with a fuel economy of 47.0 mpg (6.0 l/100 km) and with a 139 g/km CO2 emissions level. The DSG versions of the VW Golf 7 GTI are rated with a fuel consumption of 44.1 mpg (6.4 l/100 km) and 43.5 mpg (6.5 l/100 km) in the combined cycle. Their official CO2 emissions levels are 148 g/km CO2 and 149 g/km CO2 respectively.



The VW Golf VII GTI is equipped with ventilated 312 x 25 mm brake discs at the front and 300 x 12 mm discs at the rear. The GTI Performance model comes with ventilated discs for the front and the rear axle, measuring 340 x 30 mm and 310 x 22 mm respectively. The GTI Performance version is also equipped with a front axle differential lock (VAQ).

The VW Golf GTI VII comes with red brake calipers, chromed tailpipes, a sport suspension, 17-inch light alloy wheels, LED rear lights and numberplate illumination, bi-xenon headlights and LED DRLs. The hot hatch is also fitted with a distinctive body kit that includes front and rear bumpers, side skirts, a rear diffuser and a roof spoiler.

For the interior of the Golf VII GTI, Volkswagen is offering sports seats, a black rooflining, red ambient lighting, a sports steering wheel, gear lever and instrument cluster, and stainless steel pedals.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI VII's price starts at €28,350.
