BMW revealed today the new generation 2012 1 Series hatch, which comes in a 5-door hatchback version. The 2012 BMW 1 Series 5-door continues to be the only rear-wheel-drive model in its class, and now comes with a new exterior and interior styling. BMW promises that the 2012 1 Series will be even sportier and fuel efficient than before, thanks to new and revised engines. BMW's 2012 1 Series 5-door will be available in two versions, Sport Line and Urban Line, which aim to offer more personalization options, including exclusive interior and exterior design features and equipment.

The new 1 Series Bimmer continues to be a combination between premium-quality handling, aesthetics and innovative technology.

It offers both petrol and diesel engines, with power outputs ranging from 116 hp to 170 hp. all the engine options offered by the 2012 BMW 1 Series 5-door are detailed lower down this page. At launch, the 2012 BMW 1 Series will be available as 118i, 116i, 120d, 118d, and as 116d. BMW also plans to launch an EfficientDynamics version of the 2012 1 Series, which will be powered by the 1.6 liter diesel engine developing 116 hp. The 2012 BMW 116d will be the first one in its segment to come equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, an Automatic Start/Stop function and an ECO PRO mode.



In comparison to the previous generation, the 2012 1 Series is 85 millimeters longer, has a 30 millimeters longer wheelbase, 51 millimeters wider front track and a 72 millimeters wider rear track. BMW says that the 2012 1 Series offers more leg room (21 millimeters), and a 360 liters luggage space. When the rear seats are folded, the 2012 BMW 1 Series has 1,200 liters of cargo space.

For increased protection, BMW gave the 2012 1 Series 5-door a highly torsion-resistant body, together with front, side and head airbags.

The equipment list of the 2012 BMW 1 Series 5-door includes the optional iDrive system and the BMW ConnectedDrive system. BMW also offers a range of options that make life easier behind the wheel. These systems include High-beam assistance, Adaptive Headlights, parking assistance, reversing camera, Lane Departure Warning including Collision Warning, cruise control with brake function, speed-limit and no-passing information, Internet connectivity, increased smartphone and music player integration, real-time traffic information, and web radio, Facebook and Twitter apps.
