BMW says a recent study shows that 80% of BMW 1 Series drivers think they have a FWD system on their car. This means that only 20% of them really now what they spent their money on and how much fun this car can be.
This came as shock for the company, which is by definition a RWD car manufacturer. Recent rumors say BMW is preparing a front-wheel-drive model, so this can constitute an encouragement in this direction. If the drivers already think they have a front-wheel-drive car, why bother developing a rear-wheel-drive system. The new BMW FWD platform is set to enter the same market segment as the newly unveiled Audi A1 and could also be used as a base for the next generation MINI.
