Volkswagen announced today yet another concept for this year's Geneva motor show. The VW Cross Coupe TDI Hybrid concept will have its world debut in two days' time. The Volkswagen Cross Coupe made its first appearance at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show. The Tokyo version of the Cross Coupe is powered by a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid system. The Geneva version however, is powered by a turbodiesel direct injection engine (TDI), which works in collaboration with two electric motors. Volkswagen's TDI engines are already recognized for their fuel efficiency. Put one of them in a hybrid powertrain and the results could be amazing.

Volkswagen says that the new TDI hybrid Cross Coupe is able to offer a fuel consumption of 157 mpg (1.8 liters per 100 km).

Not only that the Geneva Cross Coupe is incredibly efficient, it is also very environment friendly. It's rated with a 46 g/km CO2 emissions level.

These numbers are even more amazing if you take into consideration the Cross Coupe's performance. With a weight of 1,858 kg, it outputs 225 kW / 306 PS and it can reach a top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph).

We'll have all the details and a lot more images of the Volkswagen Cross Coupe TDI Hybrid the day after tomorrow.
