Volkswagen premiered the CrossBlue Concept at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, previewing a future 6-seat SUV. The Volkswagen CrossBlue measures 4,987 mm in length, 2,015 mm in width, and 1,733 mm in height. It has wide tracks (1,686 mm front and 1,696 mm rear), 21-inch alloys and 235/45 tires. The VW CrossBlue is powered by an innovative plug-in hybrid powertrain that includes a TDI diesel engine with two electric motors, a DSG transmission, and an electric all-wheel-drive system named "propshaft by wire". Volkswagen estimates that the CrossBlue will be able to offer a fuel economy of up to 2.1 liters per 100 kilometers (134.5 UK mpg, 89 US mpg combined in electric mode and 35 US mpg as a hybrid). The production version of the CrossBlue is expected to deliver 225 kW / 306 hp and 700 Nm of torque with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 7.2 seconds (0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds).

Its top speed is rated at 127 mph (204 km/h) or 75 mph (120 km/h) in electric mode. Volkswagen says that the CrossBlue has an electric-only driving range of up to 14 miles (US test cycle) or 33 km (European NEDC driving cycle).

With the CrossBlue, Volkswagen promises SUV-like exterior styling with minivan levels of interior space. It production version will come with ESP and twelve airbags. The CrossBlue comes equipped with a filler door for the diesel tank and SCR the reservoir and two electrical sockets: one for charging the lithium-ion battery and one for connecting such camping devices as coolers or light systems.

The CrossBlue offers plenty of interior space for its passengers, as well as up to 2,000 liters of luggage space. The cargo area can be increased to up to 3,110 mm in length. The full details and specifications of the Volkswagen CrossBlue Concept are available here.
