The Volkswagen Taigun concept had its world debut this week in Sao Paolo, at the 2012 Brazilian International Motor Show. The new VW Taigun is a compact SUV, measuring 3,859 mm in length, 1,728 mm in width and 1,570 mm height (2,470 mm wheelbase). To power the Taigun, Volkswagen chose a small 1.0-litre TSI 3-cylinder engine (81 kW / 110 PS and 175 Nm / 129 lbs. ft of torque at 1,500 rpm) that comes with direct fuel injection and turbocharging. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Even though it doesn't have a lot of power, the Taigun is a lightweight SUV, weighing 985 kg. VW's official specs for the Taigun say it can get from nought to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 9.2 seconds and to reach a top speed of 186 km/h. At the same time, the Taigun promises a fuel consumption of 60.1 mpg (4.5 liters / 100 km).

The Volkswagen Taigun comes equipped with 17-inch alloys wheels, ESC, and roof rails with integrated LED spotlights. The Taigun features a two-part tailgate, which promises to be more practical than a conventional one. Its boot capacity is rated at 280 liters with the rear seats up and at 987 liters when the rear bench is folded down.

We'll have more details regarding the Volkswagen Taigun as soon as they're available.
